Meeting the Board Members

Today’s featured board member is Stephanie Niswonger, our Secretary.

Where do you work/what is your organization name?

Conner Prairie in Fishers, Indiana

How long have you/your organization raised Arapawas?

We’ve raised Arapawas since 2015

Why did you start raising Arapawas?

At Conner Prairie, we focus on raising heritage breeds that would have been existent in Indiana in the early 19th century, and Arapawas are the closest breed extant meeting the descriptions of what would have been here historically. Their temperament and breed characteristics make them a perfect fit for our site.

What is your favorite Arapawa coat color/pattern?

I personally like the long-haired gray!

What are you most excited for with the future of Arapawas?

For me, it’s exciting to see numbers increasing to a more sustainable population. In addition, I am passionate about finding niche markets and uses for these goats, whether that’s through meat or dairy products, grazing operations, etc., so it’s exciting to see what other farms are doing to raise awareness of and increase demand for these goats.
