Meeting the Board Members

Today’s featured Board Member is Callene McCune Rapp, Registrar and Treasurer.

Where do you work/what is your organization name?

How long have you/your organization raised Arapawas?

For Sedgwick County, since 2000. For Rare Hare, since 2018.

Why did you start raising Arapawas?

Sedgwick was asked by Plimouth plantation to take a satellite herd when they began moving goats out of Plimouth. It sort of grew exponentially from there! We have had them in the contact yards at SCZ ever since. Our own personal herd at Rare Hare developed from a need to be able to retain access to the various bloodlines without overwhelming the space requirements at the zoo. Both herds work together to share genetics and each serves as a backup for genetically valuable animals and bloodlines.

What is your favorite Arapawa coat color/pattern?

I don’t have a favorite, I enjoy seeing different colors crop up where I did not expect them! Totally the “box of chocolates!”

What are you most excited for with the future of Arapawas?

Finding people who are willing to do the work to be breed stewards and do the conservation work. We have a lot of new members and I’m excited to see the AGBA grow in the right direction.
