Arapawas and Parasites

As we really get into kidding season and navigate the rainy season of Spring, parasites are often a lot more common. It comes with any farm and a bit of wet weather, as well as moms and kids focusing their strength and health elsewhere.

We're lucky to have a breed that seems a lot more parasite resistant than some others, with some farms noting they've only had to deworm a few goats over their many years. This is one of the key reasons we love them, and a major talking point with farms that might see conditions that encourage higher worm loads more. Another bonus is how these goats will breed year round, meaning you can choose the best kidding season for your location! Of course, we may still see high worm loads on some goats - it's bound to happen someday, right? Treat as needed with your preferred method! What works in your area might not be as great in another, and some folks opt for a local vet or doing it themselves based on costs. The biggest reminder is never to treat if you don't need to! This can build up a tolerance, so watch those FAMACHAs and only dose the pale ones. Hopefully this season goes well and easy for everyone, and the rainy weather doesn't last longer than it needs to. :)
